  • Why should an orthodontic specialist complete my treatment?

Orthodontic treatment alters teeth permanently and sometimes even the structure of the face. It is crucial that the treatment be administered correctly and appropriately. Orthodontic specialists are able to treat their patients with professionalism and individuality because of their thorough and specialized training.

  • At what age should I schedule an appointment for an orthodontic screening?

By the time a child is seven years old, the American Association of Orthodontists advises that they all get orthodontic examinations. By this age, the majority of children have had multiple permanent teeth erupt, which enables the physician to assess the patient's orthodontic state. If interceptive treatment is required, treatment may begin at a much earlier age in some circumstances.

  • Will my teeth straighten out as I grow and get older?

They won't, that is for sure. As you get larger, there is less room for the front teeth. The space available for the front teeth usually shrinks with age in most people after the erupting permanent molars.

  • Is it too late to have braces if I’m already an adult?

There is no patient who is "too old" for orthodontic treatment! Remarkably high proportion of our patients are grownups. Actually, adults make up 25% of our patient base. Adults place a high value on their health and happiness, and receiving orthodontic treatment can boost your self-esteem at any age!

  • How long will it take to complete treatment?

The length of each patient's treatment depends on their clinical diagnosis. The length of the treatment also varies on whether it is Phase I, non-surgical, or surgical. Treatment durations typically last between 12 and 30 months.

  • How often will I have an appointment?

Schedules for appointments are based on the requirements of each patient. The majority of brace wearers will see a doctor every five to ten weeks. We will arrange visits in accordance with the need for more regular monitoring in certain cases.

  • Can I drop my child off for an appointment?

Indeed. We are aware of how busy you are, and we are here to assist you maximize your time. Nonetheless, we want you to participate as much as possible in your child's care. We advise parents to check in with their patient manager before handing off their child, as we may occasionally seek to talk with the parent upon their return.

  • Does wearing braces hurt?

Orthodontic or orthodontic corrections rarely "hurt." You can experience aching teeth for a few days following some sessions. Advil or Tylenol, two over-the-counter pain relievers, will help in these kinds of situations. Most patients, however, experience absolutely no soreness following their appointments. We frequently tell our patients, "Working does not have to hurt!" The oral or facial complex may experience mild pressure during certain surgical, minimally invasive, or therapeutic procedures. The pressure usually drops a day or two following the surgery. On the day of the procedure, your doctor will go over what to expect and any drugs that may be required.

  • Can I still play sports or play my instrument while wearing braces?

Indeed! It is advisable for patients to use mouthguards when participating in sports. It will probably take some getting used to for musicians to perform with braces until they feel comfortable doing so.

  • Do I need to see my general dentist while wearing braces?

Indeed! Throughout orthodontic treatment, routine examinations with your general dentist are essential. The time between each oral examination while receiving treatment will be decided by your dentist. Dr. Brockman will recommend you if he determines that you require more cleanings.
